The Marine Conservation & Dolphin Eco-Tourism Research Internship

North Bali is home to an important population of wild dolphins and one of Bali's best-known dolphin-watching tourism industries.

The Marine Conservation & Dolphin Eco-Tourism Research Internship provides students with the opportunity to undertake an intensive four-week research project examining the relationship between dolphin behaviour, marine conservation and responsible eco-tourism.

The programme combines academic research with direct observation at sea.

Interns will investigate how tourism activity may influence dolphin behaviour while simultaneously studying the operating practices of dolphin-watching boats, including the behaviour of boat captains, the density of vessels surrounding dolphin groups and the extent to which responsible eco-tourism and marine conservation practices are being followed.

The programme is designed to move beyond simply observing dolphins.

Interns become researchers and conservation observers, collecting structured data that can contribute to a wider NBSA research study examining how North Bali can balance tourism, local livelihoods and the long-term protection of its marine environment.
